250 Oath Ceremony

Branding 250 years in the making.

Introduction
Background

In celebration of the United State’s 250th birthday, 250 Soldiers and Airmen were sworn in to the Maryland Army National Guard by Gov. Wes Moore and Maj. Gen. Janeen L. Birckhead, adjutant general of Maryland.

The Challenge

This ceremony required branding that brings together America's historic milestone along with our Maryland pride. The visual identity needed to celebrate a national milestone while feeling distinctly Maryland.

I owned the creative direction for the visual identity, collaborating with military leadership, event planners, and print vendors to deliver a cohesive brand across every touchpoint.

Maryland & America

Design Decisions

The full-back shirt design uses the geometry of the American flag to immediately communicate the significance of the nation's 250th anniversary while incorporating Maryland-specific details that personalize the identity for local audiences.

A subtle Maryland blue crab serves as an Easter egg that reinforces the state's identity without distracting from the primary mark. The detail became a memorable element for attendees while giving the identity a distinctly local personality.

Outdoors

Environmental Displays

Banners outside of the Fifth Regiment Armory were updated to give a distinct 250 facelift to the historic building. Emblazoned on each banner is a Maryland Soldier, dating as far back as the revolutionary war to present day.
